Deciding what style of jewellery you want to make is your first decision. There are many types of jewellery and techniques for making it, as well as that the tools and equipment required, vary enormously.
A lot of people who have tried making jewellery with beads or wire, come to a point eventually where they want to learn the basics of metalsmithing; sawing, polishing and especially; how to solder, an essential skill that is required for many jewellery techniques. From handmade silver chains and clasps to making pendants, matching earrings and of course rings! The ability to solder is one of the most valuable skills you can have as a jewellery artist.
Learn how to use traditional techniques
Of course, working with metals is not restricted to silver alone, copper, brass & aluminium are inexpensive materials that look great by themselves, or even better when combined with Sterling Silver. Learning to apply a surface texture makes these metals look even more interesting.
Our Foundation Course is perfect for complete beginners
New students joining our beginners evening classes all start with our Foundation Silver Jewellery course. They work through a set of 6 projects designed so each one builds on the skills gained in the previous ones. This way you’ll be learning the essential techniques that will allow you to make any type of jewellery you can imagine and, with a little help from me, turn those dreams into reality.
The results can be amazing and this is of course exciting for the student, but also for me, their teacher. I love how students creating these basic projects come up with such a huge variety of beautiful work!
More experienced students joining the classes can skip, or go through some projects faster, to suit their previous experience level.
Learn all the essential metalworking skills you’ll need in your first 6 projects:
Sawing
Filing and Sanding
